FAQS

About Our Approach & Care

What is perinatal mental health, and how is it different from postpartum depression?

Perinatal mental health covers emotional and psychological well-being from pregnancy through the first year after birth — a broader window than "postpartum," which refers only to after delivery. This includes prenatal anxiety and depression, not just what happens after the baby arrives.

Do you see clients outside of Georgia?

Yes — Dr. Peat is authorized under PSYPACT to provide virtual therapy to clients in 40+ states beyond Georgia.  Dr. Krakow's practice is currently based in Georgia only.

Can partners experience perinatal mental health challenges too?

Yes — partners can experience anxiety, depression, and adjustment difficulties during pregnancy and after a baby arrives, even though the focus is often placed on the birthing parent. We're happy to talk through what support looks like for partners as well.

Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy here?

No — you don't need a diagnosis or a referral to reach out. Many people start therapy simply because something feels harder than it used to, without a clinical label attached to it yet.

What happens in a first session?

A first session is mostly about getting to know you — what's bringing you in, what you're hoping for, and answering any questions you have about the process. There's no pressure to have it all figured out before you walk in.
